2007年５月２８日（月）〜６月１日（金）にかけて広島で行われた「第４回動物プランクトンの生産に関する国際シンポジウム」に出席するため来日されていた、ドイツの高名な海産カイアシ類生態学者であるHans
Jurgen Hircheさん（Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research,
Bremerhaven, Germany）が来函されました（６月６日〜６月８日）。
 
７日には「Control of seasonal and vertical distribution of dominant small
copepods in the Baltic and North Seas」と題して、特別講演会が行われ、夕刻には金森ビアホールで歓迎会が開かれました。
Abstract:
The hydrographic structure of the brackish central Baltic Sea and the physiological requirements of the dominant copepod (Acartia, Temora, Pseudocalanus) species determine the vertical distribution and seasonal cycle of small copepods and has strong implications on trophic interactions. In the North Sea the factors controlling seasonal and interannual variability of abundance and phenology of Acartia clausi are presented. The use of prosome length as a simple tool to measure phenology is introduced. The interaction of female diapause and advection are discussed.
 
論文でお名前はよく知っていましたが、お会いしてみると非常に気さくな方で、研究に関するさまざまなアイディアをお持ちの方でした。
